I am sold – there is no way I am going back! The LXDE is just amazing!
LXDE is a full desktop environment with OpenBox as window-manager. And believe me – it’s fast! My first run was under Xubuntu 8.04 on a Dell Latitude P4 1.8GHz 1GB ram. It handles Gnome, KDE, Xfce pretty well with its respective wm’s. Openbox is known to be fast, and with a minimalistic DE, I believe my choice is made!
Update:
LXDE is now in the official Debian repository. Just apt-get LXDE!
Also, a new wiki is on the horizon – http://wiki.lxde.org and http://forum.lxde.org.

Never heard of it. Still trying to get compiz working properly with my nvidia card.
My first comment! Thank you for taking an interest in my blog 🙂
If you have experience with Gnome, KDE and Xfce – maybe even tried E17 – you should really try LXDE.
I am trying out lightweight DE’s and WM’s for a personalized system-distro-build to work on old computer. And LXDE is simple and fulfills my criteria for a DE.
So is this your second comment? ^.^
Interesting though, a new DE, I’m sold on Xfce(+Compiz) atm 🙂
OK, I gave it a shot, and while it’s pretty interesting, it’s not for me. I do like the idea of lxappearance though, and if it matures a bit more I suppose it might be a good candidate for inclusion in Xubuntu.
I believe it will fit perfectly for my family, to whom have grown comfortable with Windows, and need an easy transition to linux due some skepticism.
I also have a couple of laptops I plan bringing back to life 🙂
Those look like excellent use cases for this DE, as it is pretty similar to Windows *and* speedy 🙂
lxde has easy gui ways to ad some icons no need to edit a text file for that. finaly a user friendly alternative to the insane resource eaters.
